Regular verbs add 's' to the base form, as in 'she says he believes it'. The verbs 'be', 'have', and 'do' are irregular, for example in the sentences 'A thorough search was carried out', 'It doesn't matter', and 'The course has given me more confidence', there is agreement between the subject and the verb groups 'was carried out', 'doesn't matter', and 'has given'.
