Differences between American and British English: station
In the U.S., station almost always follows a second word that describes what type of station it is unless it is clear which particular station the speaker means: Which way is the bus station?, but I’ll drive you to the station. In the U.K., station usually means train station, and you add a second word when you are referring to a different type of station.
